In this talk, rancher and soil builder Gabe Brown shares how a series of hard years turned him from a conventional farmer into one of the leading voices for regenerative agriculture. After losing his crops four years in a row, he could no longer afford chemicals or fertilizers, and that forced him to pay attention to how God’s design actually works. When he stopped fighting nature and started working with it, his land began to heal. What was once lifeless dirt became living soil.
He now describes regenerative agriculture as farming in harmony with creation to repair, rebuild, and restore the life God placed in the soil. By applying six simple principles: limit disturbance, cover the ground, grow diverse crops, keep living roots, and integrate animals, his ranch transformed. Water that once ran off now soaks in at over 30 inches per hour. Organic matter rose from less than 2% to nearly 8%, turning his land from a carbon source into a carbon sink.
Brown’s story also carries a warning. Years of exposure to agricultural chemicals left him with serious health consequences, showing how deeply industrial systems harm both the farmer and the food we eat. In contrast, food grown in healthy soil is far more nutrient dense, with up to twice the vitamins and more essential fatty acids than conventional produce.
The Takeaway:
Regenerative agriculture is more than a method; it is an act of obedience to God’s natural order. When we align with His design, the soil, the plants, the animals, and our bodies all begin to heal.
Reflection:
If we want to restore the health of the land and our families, we must choose food grown through God’s design, not man’s shortcuts. Every dollar we spend on real, regenerative food is a seed planted for renewal.
